Mulu Park HQ

Introduction

Mulu National Park Headquarters, commonly referred to as Mulu Park HQ, is the main accommodation hub located within Gunung Mulu National Park in Sarawak, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Staying here places you right inside the park, within walking distance of the park office, show cave entrances, canopy walk, and trekking trailheads.

This accommodation is ideal for travellers who want immediate access to Mulu’s limestone caves, rainforest trails, and guided activities without daily transfers. The setting is simple and practical, designed for nature lovers, trekkers, and climbers preparing for the Pinnacles or Mulu Summit.

Guests can choose from a range of room types including garden bungalows, longhouse rooms, family suites, rainforest lodge rooms, and dormitory-style hostel beds. On-site facilities include the Mulu Discovery Centre, café, souvenir gallery, and park administration office where certified park guides can be arranged.

HOW TO GET HERE

Gunung Mulu National Park is located in northern Sarawak and can only be accessed by air.

By Flight

AirBorneo operates daily flights to Mulu Airport from:

  • Miri – approximately 30 minutes
  • Kuching – approximately 1 hour 20 minutes
  • Kota Kinabalu – approximately 55 minutes

Kuala Lumpur is the main international gateway into Malaysia. From Kuala Lumpur, travellers must connect via Kuching, Miri, or Kota Kinabalu before flying into Mulu.

Mulu Airport is located very close to Park Headquarters.

Important Travel Notice

Mulu is a remote rainforest destination. Flight schedules are subject to change and heavy rainfall may occasionally cause delays or cancellations.

Visitors are strongly advised to:

  • Allow sufficient buffer time for connecting flights
  • Avoid tight onward travel schedules
  • Pre-arrange tours and guides in advance during peak season

Peak travel months include June to September and major holiday periods.

Background/History

Gunung Mulu National Park is internationally recognised as one of Southeast Asia’s most important protected rainforest areas. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000 due to its outstanding limestone karst formations, extensive cave systems, and exceptional biodiversity.

Park Headquarters serves as the administrative and operational centre of the national park. It supports conservation management, visitor access, and guide coordination within this protected area.

The park is managed by Borsarmulu Park Management Sdn Bhd in collaboration with the Sarawak Forestry Corporation. All official park guides can be identified by their khaki or grey uniforms bearing the Borsarmulu Park Management logo.

Serves local dishes including forest vegetables such as paku fern, along with Western meals and limited vegetarian options. Availability may vary due to remote logistics.

Sells Mulu merchandise, handicrafts, trekking supplies, rubber shoes for Pinnacles, and essential groceries for overnight treks.
