4D3N Mulu Pinnacles & Show Caves
Overview
Explore the highlights of Mulu National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Sarawak, on this 4D3N adventure featuring Deer Cave, Lang’s Cave, Wind Cave, Clearwater Cave and the Pinnacles hike at Gunung Api. Begin with visits to Deer Cave and Lang’s Cave, followed by the famous bat exodus, where millions of bats emerge from the cave entrance at dusk. Continue with a longboat journey along the Melinau River to Batu Bungan Penan Settlement, before exploring Wind Cave and Clearwater Cave, known for their striking limestone formations and underground river systems.
The journey continues deeper into the rainforest with a 9 km trek from Kuala Litut to Camp 5, the base for the Pinnacles hike. From Camp 5, climb steep forest trails and ladder sections to reach the dramatic Gunung Api Pinnacles viewpoint, gaining around 1,200 metres elevation. This trip brings together cave exploration, river travel and rainforest trekking, offering one of the most rewarding adventure experiences in Sarawak, Malaysia.
Sample Itinerary
DAY 1 - Arrival / Deer & Lang's Caves / Bat Exodus

Arrive at Mulu Airport and transfer to Mulu Marriott Resort & Spa or Mulu National Park (Park HQ) for check-in.

In the late afternoon, meet your guide and explore Deer Cave and Lang’s Cave. Watch the famous bat exodus as millions of bats emerge from Deer Cave at dusk.

DAY 2 - Batu Bungan / Wind Cave / Clearwater Cave / Camp 5

After breakfast, travel by longboat along the Melinau River to Batu Bungan Penan Settlement. Continue to Wind Cave and Clearwater Cave, known for their limestone formations and underground river.

Enjoy a picnic lunch near Clearwater Cave before continuing by longboat to Kuala Litut.

Begin the 9 km rainforest trek (2–3 hours) to Camp 5 for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3 - Gunung Api Pinnacles Hike

Begin early with breakfast before attempting the Gunung Api Pinnacles hike.

The trail climbs 1,200 metres over 2.4 km, passing through rainforest and moss forest terrain.

The final section includes 17 aluminium ladders and rope sections before reaching the Pinnacles viewpoint.

Return to Camp 5 for dinner and overnight.

- Please take note: All clients who enter Mulu Park must bring along 1) their Passport / ID Cards and 2) a photocopy of their Passport/ID Cards to present it to the park management office upon check-in & registration.
- Notes for late arrival on Day 1:
- For arrivals after 13:00 Hrs, lunch will be changed to packed lunch.
- Guests should be prepared to begin the tour immediately upon arrival, with hotel check-in taking place after the tour.
- Please pack a separate day bag for easy access upon arrival and make arrangements for your own lunch before departing for Mulu.
- Kindly note that all guests are advised to pack extra clothing in their carry-on baggage should there be any unforeseen circumstances upon arrival in Mulu.
- Mulu Airport is very small with a limited supply of items offered at the Airport Canteen. Therefore, you are advised to purchase your energy food and drinks before arriving at Mulu.
- Kindly pack your items separately - one bag for Day 1 - 2 (first night) stay at Mulu Marriott Stay/Mulu Park HQ Longhouse, and another bag for Day 2 - 3 (second and third nights) for outdoor adventure.
- Upon arrival at the airport, you will be transferred to Mulu Marriott Stay/Mulu National Park for an overnight stay. You can store extra baggage (additional charges may apply) at Mulu Marriott Stay/Mulu National Park upon check-out, and claim it on Day 4.
- Please note the following for the facilities at Camp 5:
- Sleeping mats are provided, but no bedding. Bring your own or pay a deposit for blanket, sheet and towel at the park headquarter. You will get a refund for the deposit on returning the bedding.
- Pillow (RM10 per night) & mosquito net (single: RM6 per night, double: RM10 per night) are available for rent. Please pay directly upon registration at the park headquarter.
- Camp 5 has separate showers (cold water only) and toilets.
- Eating facilities are self-catering, with an equipped kitchen that provides gas and utensils for cooking and eating.
- You are advised to bring along some cash for any purchases at Camp 5. Do note that the prices for snacks and other items sold at Camp 5 will be higher as all items are carried in by porters.
- There are no lockers at Camp 5. Please take good care of your own belongings.
- In certain flower seasons, there are more bees and cicadas in the Camp 5 vicinity. To avoid stepping on a bee in the dark, you are advised to wear footwear at all times.
- Free filtered/boiled drinking water is available to refill your bottles.
- Due to the remote location in the Borneo jungle, there are currently no phone service connection or internet connection available during the longboat ride, jungle trekking, Mulu Pinnacles climb, or stay at Camp 5. However, at Mulu Park HQ and the show caves, there is limited phone signal coverage available.
- Using a raincoat during your Mulu Pinnacles climb is not recommended as wearing the raincoat may obstruct your view of the trail.
- Your safety is our top priority. Should the weather conditions be unfavourable, such as heavy continuous rain, the Mulu Pinnacles trail is rendered unsafe to climb due to slippery sharp rocks and steep terrain. Amazing Borneo Tours guide reserves the right to cancel that portion of the tour if unfavourable weather conditions place our guests’ wellbeing at risk.
- The climb to the summit will take an average of 4-5 hours, with safety cut off times implemented by the park rangers. Should you exceed the cut off time, you will be asked to turn around and descend back to Camp 5.
